Advanced Childcare believes that education provides perhaps the most durable and significant contribution to a young person's life chances. Often young people are disrupted in so many ways when coming into care and by providing a warm and caring environment, much of this disruption can be minimised. However, the long term disruption of a young person’s education is often carried with them far into the future.
It is for this reason that we offer full time education to all the young people resident in our homes in the North West at our own, DCSF registered school. Where possible, and appropriate, we will return young people to mainstream education, and will advocate powerfully to achieve such outcomes.
We provide day placements for 38 weeks of the year and residential special school placements on either a 38 or 52 week basis.
What we offer:
- Educational programmes are individualised for students and adhere to the National Curriculum. Students can take a range of GCSEs as well as vocational based qualifications accredited by ASDAN, AQA and OCR.
- High staff to pupil ratios ensure that the most difficult to reach student has an equality of access to the curriculum and is provided with the relevant support to optimise his/her learning.
- Recognition that young people who attend our school may demonstrate behavioural issues which may be challenging. It is however the ethos of the school that a non-exclusion policy is in place ensuring a continuity of education.
- Highly qualified and experienced teachers/support staff.
- Excellent, well established links with Connexions/local schools/colleges and work experience opportunities for students.
- Re-integration into mainstream schools.
- On-site Educational Psychologist providing assessments and ongoing work with students as well as providing guidance to staff in drawing up personal education plans.
- Enriched learning opportunities through completion of homework, after school/lunchtime classes, summer projects and agreed Individual Education/Care Plan goals set and reviewed between the teacher, student and key-worker whereby learning skills within the care homes setting can lead to an ASDAN award.
